Nigerian law makers sign documents in Chinese

Nihao Nigeria!

3 days ago, Mr Ben Ibakpa a member of the House of Representatives, shocked Nigerians when he alleged loans were obtained via the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) often without the knowledge of the National Assembly or the Bureau for Public Procurement.

He further stated some Nigerian officials did not look into those loan documents critically before signing, adding that “Some of these agreements signed were written in Chinese language.”

In a country with various Confucius Institutes and various translation companies, how is this allowed to happen? What could our law makers have done differently?
