On April 8, 2020, Nigeria welcomed a team of Chinese doctors amidst opposition from the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA). With the chartered flight, doctors/engineers and medical equipment, 2million dollars was the donation by CCECC as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility.
Today the Nigerian Minister of health shocked Nigerians by saying he had no idea where the doctors where and they were not guests of the Nigerian government. We do know the doctors were never here to treat the general public but to:
Provide Health assistance to employees of CCECC
Install equipment and provide advice on treating COVID 19
Bring a donation of medical supplies worth 1.5 million dollars.
So where are the Chinese doctors? Our guess treating staff of CEECC as planned. On the 28th March the Chinese embassy announced a telephone hotline for 9 Chinese doctors from relevant institutions in Nigeria who had volunteered to provide medical services to Chinese citizens in Nigeria. Could they be part of that medical team? It’s possible.
However the question should not be “where are the Chinese doctors?” They were never here for us! The question should be where are the medical supplies? Have staff been trained on how to use them? If I do need them will I have access to them?
